John and Yoko wrote Give Peace a Chance in 1969. Ian Martin has been working towards it for nearly as long. As the news underlines daily, the challenges the United Nations is facing at this time of acute geopolitical tensions, violations of international law, and a funding crisis are extreme.
Our speaker Ian Martin has spent a lifetime firmly focussed on helping build a safer, fairer and more sustainable world. Ian is a former Secretary-General of Amnesty International and went on to serve the UN for over 20 years. He has led human rights field missions and peace operations in Haiti, Rwanda, East Timor, Eritrea, Nepal and Libya. Human rights and the quest for peace remain on his agenda. Ian is now Chair of the Board of Trustees of the United Nations Association of the UK.
