Outing: Osterley Park and House

Osterley House outing
Event type: Outings
Date: 23rd July 2026
Cost: £18 / Free for NT, RHS & Art Fund members
Booking: Note that booking is required.

Islington u3a members are invited to join us for a day out at Osterley in West London, one of the National Trust’s finest houses and estates.

Originally built in the 16th century and visited by Queen Elizabeth I, Osterley was transformed in the mid-18th century when the renowned architect Robert Adam was commissioned to modernise the house. His work included the addition of the impressive Ionic columns on the front façade and the redesign of the principal rooms in an elegant classical style. Many of these rooms have recently been renovated and are well worth seeing.

Today, Osterley is a magnificent house set within extensive parkland and beautiful gardens, which provide a perfect complement to the historic interiors. There is also a café in the former stables.

Even if you have visited Osterley before, we hope you will join us for this Islington u3a outing. The room guides are knowledgeable and enthusiastic, bringing the history of the house to life. Please note that there are no lifts between floors, and the staircases are long because of the high ceilings and spacious rooms.

Osterley is easy to reach via Osterley Underground Station on the Piccadilly line, approximately 40 minutes from King’s Cross, followed by a walk to the house. As group tours are not available, we plan to arrive in time for coffee before exploring the house, followed by lunch and a stroll through the gardens.
