A full day trip to the historic city of Canterbury, around an hour away by train. From the station it's a short walk into the city centre and to the magnificent Norman cathedral, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of England’s most important religious buildings. We have arranged a guided tour of the cathedral in the late morning, and there are other interesting and historical sites to see.
Canterbury itself is a charming and compact city, with medieval streets, independent shops, and plenty of cafés and restaurants for lunch.
Cathedral Tour - a 75 minute guided tour of the cathedral; entrance and the tour £22.50, payable on entry.
Travel - South Eastern train: depart St Pancras 9.36am, arrive Canterbury West 10.34am. Return ticket £37.20, with senior Railcard £28.70. The walk to the Cathedral is about 15 or 20 minutes.
Booking - you must be a signed up member of Islington u3a to join the outing. To book a place, please use this booking form. The form is a commitment to attend, and it is the only way to book a place.
