This Group explores a chosen historical period by researching what was happening across the world at that time. It’s a friendly, DIY group — none of us are professional historians, but we share an enthusiasm for research and discovery. Each member selects a topic of personal interest, researches it, and gives a short talk, followed by lively discussion. We usually cover two topics per session, ranging from politics and exploration to art, science, and the lives of remarkable people. Past subjects have included the First Afghan War, Regency life in London, the Greek War of Independence, John Keats, and the Rosetta Stone.
